Date: Saturday, 5 December 2026, 7:00 pm
Venue: Theater St. Gallen, Grosses Haus, Museumstrasse 24, 9000 St. Gallen
Price: CHF 20 (paid directly to Konzert und Theater St. Gallen)
Participation: DocNet members only

Description:
Whether as the modest heroine of the Grimm fairy tale or as a glamorous Disney princess on the big screen, the story of a young woman who is exploited and underestimated, yet keeps her inner strength, is timeless. Director Anna Bernreitner brings Cinderella’s story to the stage with a fine feel for the characters and her unmistakable aesthetic.

With La Cenerentola ossia La Bontà in Trionfo (Cinderella, or Goodness Triumphant), first performed in Rome in 1817, Rossini gave the fairy tale a particularly human shape. There is no magic wand and no fairy godmother. Instead, the opera takes a sharp look at social masks and false glamour. Between sparkling coloraturas and rousing ensembles, Rossini tells of goodness triumphing over mere appearance. Pietro Rizzo, the new chief conductor of the Sinfonieorchester St. Gallen, conducts.

The opera is sung in Italian with German and English surtitles.
